Minding Our Business Studio B: Pilates/Fitness/Yoga

A Libby fitness studio has moved into a new building, expanded its services and changed its name to reflect the evolution — all the while remaining under the same owner that founded it little more than three years ago.
Studio B: Pilates/Fitness/Yoga — formerly Beyond Training — has opened at 216 West 9th Street. The new name reflects the past as well as the present, reports owner and lead personal trainer Liz Whalen.
“With the expansion of our services and retail products, we wanted to expand our name and ‘studio’ seemed to be the perfect fit,” she said. “The ‘B’ stand sfor beyond, because that is exactly what we want to do is ‘Go Beyond.’”
Studio B offers private and group sessions that emphasize all aspects of wellness. The facility is fully equipped yet “free of the larger distractions of typical gyms,” Whalen said.
“We pride ourselves in coaching integrated functional movement and teaching consistent healthful habits because life requires balance,” she said. “We want to teach [people] to stabilize movement and generate force from your core while helping you connect with your mind for a stronger mind-body connection.”
In addition to Whalen, five people help Studio B clients reach their fitness goals: Connor James, certified personal trainer; Natalie Lester and Michelle Giesey, yoga instructors; Jayne Kraman, pilates instructor and health coach; and Carol Sugar, cycling instructor.
“We also have guest instructors throughout the year that teach a variety of wellness offering,” Whalen said.
Private fitness sessions can be arranged and customized for one-on-one instruction up to small groups of three to four, while group sessions typically serve eight to 12 people at a time.
“We specifically keep them smaller in order to allow our instructors and trainers to provide better feedback for participants as they move through the workout,” Whalen said.
Studio B serves clients by appointment throughout the week, and the front desk is staffed 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, during which people are invited to shop the retail store and tour the facilities.
