Ward, a senior, won the state 5A discus with a throw of 161 feet, 5 inches at Dona Larsen Park in Boise on May 19. “I definitely put a lot of work and effort into this,” said Ward, who credited throws guru Bart Templeman of the IronWood Throws Camp with helping him to the title. “It’s basically a thrower’s building and has an indoor throwing (area). I’ve been practicing all year round. It really makes a difference.”
