June 7, 1968 — SENIOR HIGH NEWS

The junior class recently elected next year’s senior class officers. Bill Gee will undertake the duties of president with Don Gollen aiding him in the vice presidential office. Junior class secretary-treasurer Cory Moon was re-elected for next year.

Newly-elected officers for next year’s junior class are Archie Gollen, president, Steve Knoblich, vice president, and Laurie Taylor, secretary.

Editors for next year’s yearbook staff are Linda Becker and Pat Chronic.

The SHS newspaper, Cedar Post, will attempt to operate on a weekly basis next year, becoming the only weekly high school newspaper in Idaho.

SHOCKED BY KENNEDY SHOOTING

Local opinion of the attempted assassination of Sen. Robert Kennedy Tuesday night was virtually unanimous among citizens interviewed on the streets of Sandpoint Wednesday morning.

Dismay, shock, horror.

“A horrible thing!” and “A terrible thing!” were the two most frequently heard initial reactions. A college student from Sandpoint called it “stupid and wasteful.”

COUNTY WRITES LETTER OF INTENT

Bonner County Commissioners have agreed to send a letter of intent to close Airport Way county road, between the PP&S plant and U.S. 95.

June 7, 1918 — TIE MILL TO START

With a daily capacity of 50,000 ties, the Bonner Tie company with T.H. Kerr as manager intends to start operations in Sandpoint about July 1. The mill will be located on the site of the old Palace hotel which was destroyed by fire some months ago, the land now belonging to the Northern Pacific company. About 20 men daily will be employed by the new company and logs will be towed to the mill site by the Northern Navigation company, co-owners in the venture.

CHRISTENED TRIPLETS

A pretty service at St. Alphonsus chapel Sunday was the christening of the triplets of Sergeant and Mrs. Thomas Moran by Rev. Remi Keyser. The war babies were named Anna Margaret, Mary Patricia and Catherine Marie. Babies and mother are doing nicely.

ARE YOU READY FOR THE ECLIPSE?

Tomorrow is the day scheduled for the sun eclipse, which begins at 1:47 p.m. and will end at 4:15 p.m., Pacific time. The period of totality will be but one minute and 53 seconds.

Observers are warned against looking at the sun with the naked eye before the eclipse begins to pass as this will so dazzle the eye that the effect of the corona, the most beautiful spectacle of the eclipse, will be spoiled.
