WALLACE – The Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Saturday at approximately 7:45 p.m., 911 dispatch received a call from a resident on Fast Hill in Kingston, Idaho who believed he had located a human body.

Deputies responded and processed the scene and with help from the resident, were able to retrieve the body.

SCSO confirmed Sunday morning that this body’s description is consistent with that of a report received by a fisherman on May 25, claiming that he saw a body floating in the Coeur d’Alene River, face-down, near mile marker 1-2.

It is a strong possibility that the body seen by the fisherman was that of 60-year old Shannan B. Souza of Kellogg, Idaho.

Based on available evidence, it is believed that Souza accidentally fell into the river on May 25 while walking her dog near the airport in Smelterville.

The report from the fisherman at 1:56 p.m. that same day initiated a weekend long search and rescue operation that failed to find anything.

A positive identification could not be made by SCSO based on what was found, so the body will be sent to the medical examiners office for further investigation.
