COEUR d’ALENE — Legends Park Assisted Living Community in Coeur d'Alene will host a flag exchange for National Flag Week.

Community members are invited to give their old, worn-out American flags a proper retirement and in return will receive a brand new flag, free of charge.

"We're hosting this to honor our nation as well as the veterans and military members in our community," said Gillian Chapman, the Coeur d'Alene and Spokane area sales specialist for Prestige Senior Living. "It's a program we celebrate across all of our Prestige locations."

The exchange is taking place Thursday through June 21. People are welcome to bring their flags to Legends Park, 1820 N. Legends Parkway, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Prestige has partnered with the American Legion for a ceremonial disposal of the retired flags June 22.

"It's important to maintain the respect and honor for the Stars and Stripes," Chapman said.

This is the fifth year Legends has coordinated the flag exchange.

"They do have several veterans at Legends, and we always want to honor our veterans any way we can," she said. "We're proud to carry on the Flag Day tradition."

Supplies of new flags are limited. To reserve a flag, call 208-666-9900.
