The Mineral County Health Department and Parents as Teachers Program is offering a free seminar on June 18 entitled, “Communication Across Barriers”. The seminar is to help communities deal with poverty and break barriers for those in need. Dr. Donna Beegle will be holding the seminar and she works directly with children and adults currently in poverty, as well as with professionals who want to make a difference for those living in the crisis of poverty.
This program is intended for anyone who works in the public sector including medical, educators, law enforcement, social workers, and county employees. Her seminar is an opportunity to learn how to change perceptions when creating programs and communicating with people in poverty.
“Donna Beegle’s message will change how you view poverty in America. When we make judgments, we are basing those judgments on our experience in this world. Everyone doesn’t come into this world with the same opportunity,” said Parents As Teachers coordinator, Laura Acker, who worked to bring Beegle’s presentation to Mineral County.
Dr. Beegle has over 27 years working with poverty issues and founded the Opportunity Community war on poverty movement. The program is free of charge with lunch provided, however registration is required at surveymonkey.com/r/6cztf7r. It will be held on June 18 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Superior High School.
