What does Lake Coeur d’Alene have in common with the Magic Kingdom in Florida, Waikiki Beach in Hawaii and Wrigley Field in Illinois?
It’s the “most Instagrammed landmark” in its state, according to CBS News.
That’s right, Idaho’s visual, social media identity is not the giant potato. It’s that beautiful body of water surrounded by the places we call home.
The Instagram hashtag #lakecoeurdalene has been used 13,324 times. And variations of that hashtag have been used thousands more.
Of course there are many, many photos on Instagram of the lake and surrounding mountains and beaches, and plenty of gorgeous, colorful sunsets, but there are also lots of photos that include other things Lake Coeur d’Alene is known for.
There are images tagged with the lake’s name showing anglers holding big fish, brides and grooms saying their vows, flags waving in the breeze as the boats they’re attached to cruise across the water, kids playing in the sand, tattoos (yes, tattoos), frosty adult beverages, lots of people wearing cool sunglasses and at least one fine cigar being enjoyed somewhere on the lake.
