MOSES LAKE — More than 100 quilts – and wall hangings, table runners, bags and quilted works of art – will be on display June 22 and 23 at Moses Lake High School, 803 East Sharon Ave. For 2018 the quilt show is a joint presentation of the Basin Piecemakers Quilt Guild and the Moses Lake Modern Quilt Group.

The show is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 22 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 23. Admission is $5 per person.

The guild is sponsoring a raffle as well; tickets are $1 each. The blue and white quilt, titled ‘Wedgewood,” was pieced by Basin Quiltmakers and quilted by Laurel Whitener. The winning ticket will be drawn at 3:30 p.m. June 23.

Demonstrations of quilting techniques are scheduled every two hours. One quilt will be selected as the "people's choice" winner, selected by the vote of show attendees. Vendors will be selling fabric and quilting notions. Door prizes will be awarded throughout both days, and refreshments will be available.

The theme for 2018 is “Sewing is Therapy and Quilts My Reward.” The quilt show and raffle are among the guild’s biggest fundraisers, according to guild members.

Quilters have submitted works with traditional geometric designs, quilts with abstract designs, pictorial quilts, art quilts, challenge quilts. (For non-quilters, challenge quilts are projects, where the quilters are, well, challenged to use a fabric, pattern or technique in the quilt.)

Past quilt shows have featured king-size quilts, small quilts designed for display (and known as wall hangings as a result), quilted bags. Some quilts are a riot of color, some black and white, while others are monochromatic. Some are dark, others pastel.

Many of the quilts on display are made by quilt guild members, but the group invites submissions from non-members.
