The Going-to-the-Sun Road over Logan Pass opened for the season on Saturday. The opener was less than dramatic, however.

Saturday was wet and dreary with thick clouds at the top — visibility was about 50 feet, sometimes even less than that. Sunday brought warmer, drier weather and most of this week is expected to be nice, with rain returning on Friday.

Despite a snowy winter, the opener was five days earlier than last year’s June 28 opener. A warm, dry May helped plowing efforts, Park officials said.

The latest opening ever was July 12 in 2011 — another snowy winter and spring.

The free Park shuttle service up to the pass starts its service on July 1, running from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Highline Trail from Logan Pass is still closed due to snow on the trail. The trail typically opens in July.

The Hidden Lake Trail is almost completely covered in snow as well, but is open.

Rehabilitation work on Going-to-the-Sun Road scenic pullouts will continue this year on the west side of the park from the West Entrance Station to Avalanche Creek. Crews will also complete stone masonry repairs near Logan Pass. Visitors should expect up to 30 minute cumulative delays on the west side of the park throughout the summer and fall.

The Park reminds bicyclists that there are restrictions on the road during the peak drive times. Bicycles are prohibited between the Apgar turnoff near the Apgar Picnic Area and Sprague Creek Campground from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bicycles are prohibited eastbound (uphill) between Logan Creek and Logan Pass from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
