Adams County Commissioner Roger Hartwig presented a check for $25,000 on Wednesday, Feb. 14 to Adams County Pet Rescue Director Kyya Grant. The five-figure donation is a token of the county’s continued support for the tireless efforts conducted by staff at the facility.

“The shelter is moving a larger number of animals through it and we saw the need to increase the money we were giving,” Hartwig said. “The people at Pet Rescue are providing a very important need to the community of Othello and to Adams County. We really appreciate their efforts and want to fully support them.”

Hartwig said the county’s typical annual donation to the animal shelter had been $15,000, but a decision was made by him and fellow commissioners John Marshall and Jeff Stevens to up the endowment.

Adams County Pet Rescue board member Randy Deasy said the money will be put to good use. “The additional support from the commissioners will assist the shelter in continuing to provide quality animal services to Adams County.”

Hartwig said the donated funds were allocated from the county’s current expense account. Hartwig wants to remind people the shelter takes in terrier breeds and hopes to see a reduction of the dogs left abandoned along the roadside.

ACPR also received a $6,000 bonus for Pet Smart for reaching 250 adoptions at the facility.
