Local Plains School teacher Katherine (Katie) Hillerman has received her Master of Science in curriculum and instruction from Western Governors University.

In a press release from the university, the 64th commencement ceremony was held at the Disney Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando on Feb. 10 to celebrate the graduation of about 15,000 graduates from across the country.

Hillerman was one of over 6,000 students the university recognized as a post graduate during the February ceremony.

Hillerman is currently one of the kindergarten teachers at Plains Elementary School.

“Any person that furthers their education to enhance the learning of students is a real asset to any school. By Katie being proactive in her education our kids will greatly benefit in theirs,” said Plains Superintendent Thom Chisholm.
