David W.K. Kalb and Rose I. (Syth) Kalb have celebrated 50 years of marriage.

They were to be married Dec. 20, 1967, but, David’s flight was delayed coming stateside from Vietnam. Instead, the couple were married Jan. 6, 1968, at the St. Agnes Episcopal Church in Sandpoint, Idaho. Then, they returned to Camp Pendelton, Calif., while David finished his tour of duty with the U.S. Marine Corps.

They returned to Sagle/Sandpoint area and David started working at Pack River Lumber Co. Later, David bought his own self-loader and worked hauling logs for many years in Idaho and Montana. At the time when timber/logging industry was at its low, David bought a semi-truck and drove long haul throughout the United States. At the end of 2012, he decided to offer pilot car services in the area for oversized loads and now, continues to work part-time doing the same.

Rose was raised in Heron, Mont., and moved to Kootenai, Idaho, just before her freshman year. David was raised in the Westmond/Sagle area. David and Rose both went to Sandpoint High School, however, they did not know one another at the time. David and Rose met through David’s brother, Bill, and Rose’s best friend, Ellen. Rose worked in the community throughout the years and is now retired.

David and Rose did move to Michigan to help family (in the late 1980s) thinking “five years and return home.” Eight-and-a-half years later, they were able to move back to Idaho to be near family and friends and the area they love so much.

The couple hav two children: David E. (Laura) Kalb in Post Falls, Idaho, and Terrae Heckert in Carlisle, Pa. They have two granddaughters, Jasmine and Roseanna; and two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Liam.
