Newhouse announces 2018 art competition

WASHINGTON D.C. — If you are a high school artist and want recognition for your work then check out Fourth Congressional District Rep. Dan Newhouse’s 2018 Congressional High School Art Competition.
The art competition is open to all high school students in the 4th Congressional District, which includes Douglas, Okanogan, Grant, Yakima, Franklin, Benton and Adams counties. The winner of the competition will have their art displayed in the U.S. Capitol and receive two airline tickets to visit the nation’s capital and an invitation to attend a reception hosted by the Congressional Institute.
In addition, the winning piece of art will be featured on the Congressional Art Competition’s website. Honorable mentions will be invited to have their art displayed at one of Newhouse’s district offices.
“This is the fourth Congressional High School Art Competition for Central Washington, and I have been proud to show off our high school students’ artwork in the halls of Congress,” Newhouse stated. “The entries we have received in previous years have shown a lot of talent, and I hope that students again take this opportunity to display their creativity. I encourage all 4th District high school artists to submit entries.”
Submitted artwork can be up to 26 inches by 26 inches, up to 4 inches in depth and cannot weigh over 15 pounds. The winning piece of art must arrive framed and still not be bigger than the maximum dimensions.
The following art categories are open for submission to the competition.
Paintings: Including oil, acrylics and watercolor.
Drawings: Including pastels, colored pencils, pencil, charcoal, ink and markers.
Collages: Are required to be two-dimensional.
Prints: Including lithographs, silkscreen and block prints.
Mixed media: Includes the use of more than two different art mediums.
Computer generated art.
Photography.
Submissions are due by April 24 and must be dropped off at one of the following congressional offices:
