MOSES LAKE — If you are a Moses Lake resident and want to get involved in city government then you might want to think about applying for appointment to the Moses Lake City Council. The council is down one member and accepting applications to fill the position.

Mike Norman resigned from the council at the end of the Feb. 27 council meeting. Norman was elected in 2015 and his term was set to expire at the end of 2019.

The council has 90 days from Norman’s resignation to make an appointment to the vacant Position No. 7 seat. If no decision is made in that 90-day time span, the decision would then go to Grant County. If after 90 days the county fails to make an appointment, the decision will become the governor’s.

There are several different ways a city council can go about appointing a person to a vacant council seat. During Tuesday night’s council meeting the council voiced support for accepting applications/questionnaires from people who are interested. Applications are due by March 30 and can be obtained online by visiting www.cityofml.com or in person at the Moses Lake Civic Center building, 401 S. Balsam St.

The council plans to review the applications/questionnaires, formulate candidate questions and have a public interview with the applicants during the April 10 council meeting. Appointment is expected to be done during the meeting and the appointee will be sworn in during the April 24 meeting.
