SANDPOINT — A preliminary hearing is pending for a Clark Fork man accused of felony eluding and reckless driving.

A Bonner County Sheriff’s deputy encountered Ryan Allen Denny on Upper Pack River Road last April and clocked the Volkswagen Jetta he was driving at 76 mph in a 35 mph zone, according to a probable cause affidavit. He also rounded blind corners in the opposing lane of traffic during the pursuit, the affidavit alleges.

Denny, 38, turned onto Caribou Creek Road before ditching the vehicle and fleeing into the woods on foot, court records indicate. Denny could not be located despite ground searches by deputy, a K-9 unit and an Idaho Department of Fish & Game law officer.

Denny was the subject of two arrest warrants, one of which resulted from failing to appear in court on a misdemeanor eluding charge in Bonner County that dates back to 2015, court records show.

Denny was arrested on the warrants earlier this month and made an initial appearance in Bonner County Magistrate Court via videoconferencing from the jail on March 5. A public defender was appointed to represent him. He is free on a $5,300 surety bond while the case is pending.

A preliminary hearing is set for March 28.
