Construction work begins on Central

Construction on the southern portion of Central Avenue is set to begin this seek.
Work on Central between Third Street and Sixth Street is scheduled to start on Wednesday, March 21 and is anticipated to be completed the first part of June, according to the city of Whitefish.
The block between Third and Fourth streets will be fully reconstructed to match the downtown business district including, creating angled parking and new sidewalks.
This block is anticipated to be closed for the duration of construction, the city notes.
Construction between Fourth Street and Sixth Street will involve completing a water main replacement project that began last fall and will mainly involve areas of sidewalk replacement, asphalt replacement and landscape restoration.
These blocks will remain open as much as possible, but will be closed to through traffic during portions of the construction period.
To minimize disruption to surround blocks, a portion of the city parking lot on the corner of Central and Third Street will be used for construction staging. Public parking will be designated in the remaining portion of this lot.
In August 2017 City Council approved a contract for $939,000 for Watson Excavation for the project.
The reconstruction of the block from Third to Fourth streets is set as a priority of the 2015 downtown master plan.
