Priest River Elementary sixth-graders joined math classes around the world in celebrating Pi Day on March 14 (3.14). The ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, pi is an irrational number, meaning that it never terminates or repeats. The students competed to see who could recite the most digits of pi from memory.

Leading the sixth grade were Layton McDonald (221 digits), Luke Wuollet (204 digits), and Jude Best (122 digits). Sixth-grade math teacher, Mr. Keating kicked off the day by reciting 345 digits from memory. The students celebrated by eating pies provided by PRE families and participating in pi related learning activities.
