Othello takes two from Ephrata on the diamond

The Huskies came from behind in both games to sweep a double header with Ephrata Saturday. It was a wild couple of ball games that produced 46 runs between the two teams and saw Othello pull off its first triple play in school history.
The Huskies were down 4-2 in the top of the fifth inning with Tigers on second and third with no outs. A line drive to second off the bat of an Ephrata hitter went straight to Janissa Garza who touched the pillow and then threw the ball home. The Huskies catcher then fired the ball to third base and Breanna Marquina tagged the runner out trying to scramble back to the bag.
Trailing 7-2 going into the bottom of the seventh the Marquina jacked a grand slam to get Othello back in it. With runners on first and second, Jazlyn Verduzco double to left-center to tie it and Garza got the game winning RBI with a single to complete the comeback.
Game 2
The second game was a back and forth contest that had the score tied 14-all going into extra innings. With a runner at first, Marquina stepped to the plate and hit the walk off homer for the win.
“Both games saw a lot of guts from each team as neither wanted to give in,” coach Rudy Ochoa said. “It was a wild two games.”
Audisey Sauceda got the win in the opener. Breanna Marquina was the winning pitcher of record in game two.
The Huskies(2-0) are in Selah(2-0) for a twin bill with the Vikings Saturday.
