Piles of books were stacked around the children’s section of the Ronan Library Monday as employees worked on organizing the stacks.

Following a weeklong closure, the library, located at 203 Main Street SW, reopened on Monday, March 19, during which time employees organized the books by categories, Michelle Fenger, library director said, adding that books will be arranged by categories.

For example, “all of the bird books, whether they are fiction or nonfiction, are together,” Fenger explained.

“It’ll be great when it’s all done,” she said.

The organization changes were made possible by the Rural Libraries Create Small Spaces grant, for $5,100.

“The concept is there are many small rural libraries that don’t have space” to do activities they want, so the monies have helped purchase furniture and fixtures which are easily moved and stored, allowing for more room.

“All of the (children) bookshelves are now on castors, so they can be rearranged,” while new tables have flip tops and are height-adjustable.

New computer tables are also on castors, and aren’t as bulky as the older cubicles.

The books are being neatly set into shelves that staff built and brightly painted last week.

In front of each row will be chalkboard paint, labelling the selections of books.

Now, Felger said that different types of programming for children and adults will be held at the library.
