Students earn UM academic honors

At the University of Montana, 2,631 students made the fall semester 2017 dean’s list and president’s 4.0 list.

To qualify for the dean’s list or president’s 4.0 list, students must be undergraduates, earn a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher and receive grades of A or B in at least nine credits. Students who receive any grade of C-plus or below or no credit n a course are not eligible.

Among the students from the area making either the 2017 spring semester dean’s list , with a grade point average of a 3.5-just under a 4.0 GPA, are Joseph Davis, Athol; Olivia Moore, Sandpoint; Jack Rinck, Sandpoint; and Jordyn Kronenberg, Spirit Lake. All of the students earned a GPA greater than a 3.5 but less than a 4.0.

EOU announces fall dean’s list

At the close of fall term, 529 EOU students qualified for the dean’s list. These students maintained a GPA of 3.5 or higher while completing at least 12 hours of graded coursework during the term.

The following students from the area earned this distinction: Emily Graham and Nan Kiebert, both of Sandpoint.

Pacific University students honored

Several local students have been named to the dean’s list at Pacific University (Ore.) for fall semester 2017. They are among 459 undergraduate students at Pacific University to achieve this high academic honor. Earning a spot on the list were Robert Stevens of Sagle and Maya Appell of Sandpoint.

To qualify for the dean’s list at Pacific, a student must achieve a term GPA of 3.70 (4 scale) and complete 12 or more graded hours.

EWU announces fall dean’s list honors

Eastern Washington University has announced its dean’s list for the fall quarter. An undergraduate student who earns 12 quality hours and receives a GPA of 3.5 or better is placed on the dean’s list.

Students from the area who earned a spot on the list include:

Sandpoint — Brooke Pannell, Samuel Palmer, Bailee Palmer, Elizabeth Parsley, Kaitlyn Flood, Brent Mellgren, Roxann Maier, and Amanda Arriondo.

Spirit Lake — Shantell Willette, Jeremy Gerhardt, Jodie Mactagone, and Mercedes Mccomb.

Ketzler is named to Nebraska dean’s list

Mary Ketzler of Blanchard has been named to the deans’ list at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the fall semester of the 2017-18 academic year.

Ketzler, a junior textiles, merchandising and fashion design (merchandising) major, was named to the dean’s list for the College of Education and Human Sciences. Students must earn at least a 3.75 grade point average to be named to the list.

More than 5,100 students at Nebraska have been named to the deans’ list for the fall semester. All qualifying grade-point averages are based on a four-point scale and a minimum of 12 or more graded semester hours.

Kovalchuk earns degree at MSU

Montana State University awarded 749 undergraduate degrees during MSU’s 2017 fall commencement ceremonies held Dec. 16 in Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

Among those earning a degree at MSU was Elizabeth Kovalchuk of Sandpoint, who graduated with the highest honors. To graduate with highest honors, undergraduate students must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.70

Dan Wenk, the superintendent of Yellowstone National Park, received an honorary doctorate in letters and delivered the charge to graduates at the ceremony.

Also during the ceremony, MSU President Waded Cruzado presented the President’s Medallion to the late Klein Gilhousen for his support of the university and its programs. The award was accepted by his widow, Karen. The medallion is presented to those who have made significant contributions to the educational, cultural, economic, scientific and social advancement of MSU and the region.

Hanford accepted at Palmer College

Alicia Hanford of Sagle has been accepted for enrollment for the spring 2018 trimester in the bachelor of science degree program at Palmer College of Chiropractic.

Palmer College of Chiropractic is the founding college of the chiropractic profession, founded in 1897 in Davenport, Iowa, by D.D. Palmer, the discoverer of chiropractic.

More than 2,100 students attend Palmer College campuses in Davenport, Iowa; Port Orange, Fla.; and San Jose, Calif.

NIC duo honored for graphic design

Two students from the North Idaho College Graphic Design program recently earned honors at the annual American Advertising Federation Addy Awards in Spokane. Douglas Anderson won a Silver Addy for his design of the cover of the Associated Students of NIC (ASNIC) Student Handbook.

All students who earn gold and silver Addy Awards are eligible for competition at the district level.

“Recent NIC graduates also received awards as a long tradition for the NIC Graphic/Web design programs and degrees,” said Philippe Valle, NIC Graphic Design instructor.

Andrew Lincoln received the prestigious Toni Marie Robideaux design scholarship, based on his design portfolio submission. The $1,000 award is provided and judged by Spokane’s most influential design leaders to recognize and reward student achievements and excellence in the design fields. In the last 14 years since the Toni Marie Robideaux Scholarship has been awarded to aspiring design students, NIC graphic/web design students have received it 14 times.
