In the wake of the suicide of former Coeur d’Alene High School principal Troy Schueller, the Kroc Center will host a support night for CHS students and faculty from 4 to 8 p.m. tonight.

The event is also sponsored by Panhandle Health District and Kootenai Health — who will each have health professionals present — in addition to the local chapter of Suicide Prevention Action Network.

Katherine Hoyer, public information officer for Panhandle Health District, said the aim is to offer a safe location for students and staff.

“Our goal is to provide a gathering place for students to come and feel comfortable,” Hoyer said. “We want students to feel that there are resources here in the community for them.”

Since Schueller’s death occurred just days before spring break, this event hopes to add some structure and resources that students may be lacking at the moment, Hoyer said.

The Kroc Center will provide free day passes to all CHS students and faculty, according to Jorie Sanner, programming director at the Kroc Center.

Anyone 18 and older will need a valid form of ID to enter, though, Sanner said.

Attendees can come and go at any time throughout the event, which will begin in the Juniper Room on the east side of the building.

Additional space will be provided for CHS students or staff to meet one-on-one with counselors, Sanner said.
