POLSON — Polson climbed out of a four-run hole to dispatch Northwest A conference foe Libby 8-5 on Thursday evening.
Trailing 4-0 before they even batted, the Pirates cracked the scoreboard for a run in the second inning and exploded for five more in the third to take a lasting lead.
“I was very pleased with our team, the way they did come back,” Polson head coach Larry Smith said. “They fought.
“It was a typical Libby-Polson game. Very intense game. Very well-played game by both teams.”
Polson’s Vanessa Kent settled into the circle after her rough first inning and allowed only one more Libby run. She was credited with the win.
The Pirates added their final two runs in the fourth inning.
Kaelyn Smith, Kaylanna Desjarlais, Josie Caye and Marina Mayorga notched two hits apiece in a balanced offensive effort that yielded 11 hits for Polson.
Smith, who doubled, and Olivia Perez each drove home two runs.
Haylee Cannon tallied two hits and an RBI for Libby.
The Loggers host Frenchtown at 3 p.m. today. Polson visits Columbia Falls at 5:30 p.m. Thursday for a Northwest A contest.
