Avalon Care Center of Othello receives national award

OTHELLO — U.S News and World Report released the names on its 2017 Best Nursing Homes list and Avalon Care Center of Othello was one of 2,300 across the country that earned the designation.
The national recognition is not a first for Avalon though, as the nursing home received the same honors in 2015 as well explained Administrator, Josh Loveless.
“We do a really good job here,” said Loveless. “It’s clean and it’s safe.”
The prestigious rating is based on the criteria of patient care, which takes into consideration how many patients the home cares for, and how many of them see improvements and are able to return home. Health inspections and staffing are also factors.
“A lot of our staff has been here 20 — 30 years,” said Loveless.
Loveless explained that Avalon has less turnover in comparison to many other nursing homes, and added they have also had great community support and response.
He went on to say that while Avalon’s building is not fancy, they work hard to provide the best care possible for their patients.
“What it lacks in amenities, we make up for in care,” said Loveless.
