Prep roundup: Ephrata's Peters holds off 4A champion for Joe Lenberg title

YAKIMA — Ephrata’s Kenedee Peters is one of the best prep golfers in Washington, regardless of classification.

The two-time Class 2A state champion traveled to Apple Tree Golf Course in Yakima and went low. Peters shot 68 to win the Joe Lenberg Invitational, finishing four strokes ahead of reigning 4A champion Cassie Kim of Davis.

Peters highlighted an Ephrata contingent that took second overall (376) behind a balanced Camas group (322). The Papermakers put all five of their golfers in the top 10, led by Hailey Oster’s 75.

Isabel Buchert (102), Payton Hagy (102), Chloe Mickelsen (104), and Emmie Dilling (114) rounded out Ephrata’s lineup.

OTHELLO — Othello had it pick itself off the mat after surrendering a 2-0 lead with 10 minutes to play.

However, the Huskies, recovered to beat Grandview 3-2 in a shootout.

Arvin Arvizu scored first and Juan Tapia finished an assist from Bernie Garza Jr. to give the Huskies a 2-0 lead deep into the second half. The Greyhounds took advantage of two free kicks and generous stoppage time to even the game.

In the shootout, Grandview held a 3-2 advantage before Othello goalkeeper Miguel Silva made consecutive saves. Sergio Mondragon, Othello’s sixth shooter, sunk the game-winner.
