SANDPOINT — Looking for a little fun this weekend but want to help out a good cause at the same time?

The Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership class will host the fifth annual Cinco De Mayo Fundraising Party, hosted on Saturday, May 5, at Trinity at City Beach on the lawn. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the two local non-profits in Bonner County.

“The Leadership team is thrilled to support both the Angels Over Sandpoint and Kaniksu Land Trust’s Pine Street Woods this year,” said Alsy Brinkmeyer, a member of the 2017’-’18 Leadership class and Bonner County Daily Bee general manager and advertising director. “It is an honor to work alongside these non-profits as they work tirelessly to serve Bonner County, helping to make our community an even better place.”

Activities at the Cinco de Mayor party include live music and drinks, a taco bar, silent auction and raffles. All proceeds will be donated to the two nonprofits.

Each year, the Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce hosts a leadership class in which a group of highly motivated individuals from many different aspects of the community learn about the various needs in Bonner County. Through the course, the leaders are tasked with choosing a local non-profit — or more —that they are passionate about and would like to help raise funds through a community fundraising effort. Members of this year’s leadership class selected to support Angels Over Sandpoint and Kaniksu Land Trust.

Angels Over Sandpoint is a grassroots organization dedicated to helping a community in need and is supported entirely by volunteers. They rely heavily on benefactors. Since its inception in 1997, Angels have put in over $1 million back into Bonner County.

Kaniksu Land Trust is a non-profit organization that promotes healthy lands and healthy communities with the understanding that the two go hand-in-hand. They facilitate voluntary land conservation by working with landowners to keep important lands intact. Pine Street Woods is 160 acres of pristine meadows and forest, just minutes from Sandpoint. KLT has a campaign underway to acquire this land and envisions the property becoming a place where the public will come to recreate, unwind, explore, and attend any number of programs.

The Greater Sandpoint Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit, membership driven organization composed of approximately 600 business enterprises, civic organizations, and individuals.
