The April 24 Bonner County Republican Women’s forum yielded interesting distinctions between the two Republican commissioner District 3 candidates.
When queried about the current controversy of voters switching party affiliation to vote in the Republican primary, Carol Kunzeman wouldn’t specifically answer whether she supports it, but admitted she has friends who are changing parties to vote for her. Contrarily, McDonald gave a full-throated rebuke to what he sees as an effort by local Democrats to dilute the primary of the opposing party.
On the Scotchman’s Peak debate, Kunzeman suggested she’s for designating more of Idaho’s lands as wilderness, and cited fires as her concern. McDonald is firmly opposed, explaining that once that land leaves our control, the federal government will forever dictate how we can and cannot use it. He also said he’s actively working with local groups to halt the takeover.
Finally, on the smelter, Kunzeman has reached a conclusion of “nay” without all the facts. McDonald is waiting to formulate a position until all information is available, and also understands the project is out of our control given the smelter would be located in Washington.
McDonald is on the right side of these three major issues. Please vote for Dan on May 15.
