Work on the city of Kellogg’s Sewer Rehabilitation and Replacement Project continues to ramp up for the 2018 construction season.

Phase II, underway in the Sunnyside Addition north of 1-90 is in full swing. Knife River, the contractor for this phase of the project has hit the ground running. Workers are now making sewer connections on the 300 block of Riverside Avenue. When completed, they will move to Mullan Avenue proceeding east from Chestnut toward Hill Street installing new sewer mainline. A second crew is completing water connections in the area of Caladonia and Sunset, headed for Howard Street. A third crew is scheduled to start work on May 8. They will begin connecting sewer services on the 200 block of Riverside Avenue. Workers will try to avoid crossing Hill Street until spring run-off has slowed due to the large capacity storm lines now running full in that location.

The Phase III contractor, Big Sky Development is currently scheduled to begin working on May 8. They will start along the Trail of the Coeur d’Alene’s where they left off last fall.

Construction near you will occur over a number of days so please plan accordingly. Work begins at 7 a.m. and depending on need, may need to be scheduled for some Saturdays. Make sure you have a place to park vehicles and if necessary an alternative access route to your home as construction moves through your area.

Always be safe. Obey road closure signs. Drive carefully around and through construction zones. Watch out for pedestrians and especially young children. Remember, operators of heavy equipment may have blind spots that make seeing vehicles and pedestrians difficult, so give them lots of room to maneuver. Please be patient with all that is going on, your understanding is greatly appreciated.

Parents are asked to remind their children to avoid active construction areas and to not play on material piles that are placed in or remain throughout your neighborhood.

Anyone needing special assistance related to the project or who may have questions or concerns should contact Mr. Craig Lewis, Superintendent of Public Works at 208-786-9131. On weekends, holidays or after working hours you may contact Mr. Lewis by calling the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Dispatch at 208-556-1114 and ask that they contact him for you.
