I don’t remember getting so many fliers for the election for governor since I’ve lived here. The bashing going on between the candidates is just to much. Sounds like they’re all dirty crooks. It’s our duty to vote, but if these are the choices we have who do we vote for? Pick one and hope he’s the least of the evils, or write in a candidate such as the old standby Mickey Mouse.

POPPIES: ‘Tis

the season

Memorial Day is Monday, May 28. We are asking you to remember and honor those members of the Armed Forces who have given their lives defending our country, our veterans who have honorably served and those currently serving in our military.

Since World War I, the red Poppy has been the symbol of remembrance on Memorial Day. The Poppy was popularized by the publication of the wartime poem “In Flanders Field” to honor soldiers killed in battle. In 1920, the American Legion designated the red Poppy as its official flower of remembrance.

Local members of the American Legion will be distributing red Poppies in the weekends preceding Memorial Day and asking you to wear them to honor the fallen and support the living who have worn the uniform of our nation and put their lives on the line defending our Freedom. You can help by reminding family, friends and co-workers of what the red Poppy symbolizes. You can also help by donating to a local veterans service organization (American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War and Disabled American Veterans). Your donations will assist local veterans and those currently serving in our military.

Please also plan to attend one of the many wonderful local ceremonies and events that veterans organizations within our community hold to honor Memorial Day, and when you do, please wear a red Poppy to show that you remember and support those we have lost and those who have served or are currently serving.

POEM: Mothers

and daughters

Mother’s little girl runs to her

And embraces her till breaths crumple.

In that very moment,

Life stands still for a while,

Flesh against flesh,

Heart to heart moment,

The embrace of her little girl

Just feeds her soul with inspirational nourishment.

The mother’s eyes peer deep into her child’s,

Mother loves moments like this,

Moments that take her breath away

When her child gives her a hug and kiss.

It’s those beautiful life moments

That the mother shall always treasure.

Mother’s love for her beautiful girl

Has no depth, has absolutely no measure,

But that sweet little girl

Will mature into a young lady

And soon that beautiful little girl

Will get married and have her own family.

But this isn’t the end of the story,

Just the beginning to a new life chapter.

It’s moments in life like this

That the mother will treasure and capture

And stow them away in a pocket in her heart,

Embroider them deep within her soul.

She will rewind back in time

To those moments that made her feel whole.

Her heart will create a scrap book

Filled with moments like these,

And when she feels sorrow,

She will look at the scrap book and feel peace.

Her daughter is all grown up now,

She’s an adult now it’s unbelievable,

But to the mother of this young lady,

She shall always remain mother’s little angel.

facts missing

In response to the May 7 article titled “High vaccination exemption rates at Idaho schools,” there are so many things wrong with the propaganda in this article it’s hard to know where to begin! But first, thank GOD that our state still allows exemptions, thank GOD that our rights as Americans to choose what we put in our bodies and our children’s bodies is still OUR CHOICE and illegal, immoral and unethical mandates are NOT our reality like they are in California.

The facts about the dangers of vaccines and their side effects are readily available on the CDC’s own website for anyone to find and read! Why are these statistics and the links to those statistics NOT INCLUDED in the article? Why is the VACCINE INJURY COMPENSATION PROGRAM not even mentioned in the article? The FACT that the U.S. government has paid out more than $3 BILLION since 1986 to the victims and their families for injuries and deaths caused by vaccines? WHY is the fact that President Reagan provided the pharmaceutical industry immunity from liability for injury and death caused by their toxic vaccines. WHY? It is unconscionable that the false narrative that autism is not a side effect of vaccines is still being perpetuated by the media, the CDC and the health care industry. IT HAS NOT BEEN DEBUNKED! STORY: A taco tantrum

Dear Coeur d’Alene Press: As a Coeur d’Alene native of almost 50 years I was surprised to hear that in your Cinco de Mayo write-up there was no mention of the Mexican Food Factory being a place to get tacos. I was also surprised that being established in 1981 that someone else was named the oldest operating Mexican restaurant in town. The Mexican Food Factory at 410 N. Fourth on the corner of Fourth and Birch is a Coeur d’Alene Institution that people have been going to for multiple generations (some regulars as much as 3-5 times a week).

I know that the Coeur d’Alene Press is aware of its existence because a one-time food critic for The Press actually did a write-up on the wonders and joys of this great family-run business. Please get your facts together and print a retraction.

ATTACKS: Resist

the attackers

Since when does attacking your neighbor’s ability to run for office by way of deadly emails containing personal information build you up as superior to those who care about our community and are willing to donate their time in office?

Some of the attack actions have been very unfair to good people who don’t have to run others down to win the election on their own merits.

If you think you can win an election based on your code of ethics, you have another thought coming! You know who you are. Good luck to good people who will be real assets as representatives for our community.

SYMPHONY: Standing ovation

BRAVO to the dedicated and talented musicians of the Coeur d’Alene Symphony who presented an excellent, world-class concert last Sunday afternoon at the Kroc Center. This wonderful musical experience was conducted and inspired by a dynamic guest conductor, and enhanced by a distinguished visiting violinist.

Coeur d’Alene is indeed fortunate to have these outstanding symphony musicians who share their love of music with us. The incredible amount of work to prepare for such an event is much appreciated.
