COEUR d'ALENE — Multiple Kootenai County candidates in next Tuesday's primary election have reported more than $5,000 in contributions to their campaigns.

Tuesday was the deadline for candidates to file their pre-primary financial reports for next Tuesday’s election to the Elections Office.

Reports for the candidates' financial activity from Jan. 1 through April 29 is posted on the county’s website.

Marc Eberlein, the District 1 incumbent county commissioner, reported $6,680 in contributions and $3,741.42 in expenditures.

Among Eberlein's contributions are from: himself, $2,000; Scott Livingston, $1,000; Mary Drennan, $500; Tom Hanley, $500; John Malloy, $250; Steve Vick, $250; Scot Haug, $200; Dan Green, $200; and Tim Kastning, $50.

Eberlein's challenger, Bill Brooks, reported contributions of $1,000 each from the Coeur d'Alene Association of Realtors, North Idaho Building Contractors Association and Kootenai County Deputy Sheriff's Association. Brooks’ expenditures were not yet on the county’s website by early Wednesday evening.

In the five-way race for District 3, challengers Leslie Duncan and Luke Sommer are leading the pack in financial contributions.

Duncan reported $5,571 in contributions before $1,000 each from Gary and Jeanne Norton was received on Monday for a total of $7,571 in contributions. She has spent most of that total amount.

Her other contributors include, but are not limited to: Robert Bierman, $1,000; Mary Drennan, $500; Art and Leslie Macomber, $250; Dan Green, $100; Lordship Church, $100; and Tim Kastning, $50.

Duncan's largest expenditure — $1,000 — was to the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee.

Sommer reported $5,014 in contributions and just $1,604.57 in expenditures. He's taken out a total of $3,750 in loans.

Among Sommer's contributors are: Phil Damiano, $250; Coeur d'Alene Anesthesia Service, $200; John Cross, $150; and Craig Singer, $100.

Incumbent Bob Bingham reported $2,622.43 in contributions — most of it from loans and the rest contributions by himself — and expenditures of the same amount.

"Bob is refusing any donations from others (for the primary)," his contribution sheet states.

Challenger Robert Thornton reported $2,386.16 in contributions (all loans) and $1,843.97 in expenditures.

The fourth challenger, Russ McLain, reported $200 in contributions and no money spent. Stanley Olson contributed half of the amount.

Democrat Ruben Miranda, who will take on the Republican winner in the November general election, reported $4,959.34 in contributions and took out a $10,000 loan last week. Susanne Marshall and Michael Marvinny contributed $1,000 as did the Kootenai County Democrat Central Committee. He also took out a total of $739.34 in loans in April.

No financial report was posted for District 3 Libertarian candidate Larry Pegg as of Wednesday night.

This story has been updated to reflect the following correction:

In Thursday’s paper, one of Bill Brooks’ campaign contributors was incorrectly reported. Brooks received a contribution from the North Idaho Building Contractors Association, not the North Idaho Political Action Committee.
