The Ronan boys and girls track team may be very young, but individual competitors are starting to emerge as the Chiefs and Maidens approach the end of the season.

The Maidens, in particular, had several competitors excel at the Kim L. Haynes Memorial Meet at Seeley Lake.

Kinsely Barney finished second in the 100-meter dash, recording a personal record with a time of 12.87 seconds.

Barney was also a member of the 4X400 relay team consisting of Katelyn Beh, Lindsey Brooks and Kiana King that placed fourth recording a time of 4 minutes, 32.82 seconds.

Lindsay Brooks was another member of the Maidens that excelled at the KHL. Brooks placed second set a personal record of 1 minute, 5.17 seconds in the 400-meter dash and also placed second in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2 minutes, 43.37 seconds.

Chiefs excel in KHL, Lake County meet

Ronan High School distance runner James Normandeau is starting to emerge as one of the stronger competitors.

Normandeau had two top-five finishes in the 800-meter and 1600-meter dash at the KHL Invitational Saturday in Seeley Lake.

Normandeau placed third in the 800-meter dash recording a time of 2 minutes, 6.18 seconds and in the 1,600-meter dash he finished first with a time of 4 minutes, 42.89 seconds.

Normandeau finished second in the 400-meter dash recording a personal record of 55.22 seconds at the Lake County Meet and also finished first in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2 minutes, 2.60 seconds, another personal record.

Another Chief that had a top-five finish at the KHL was Brant Heiner. Heiner, another distance runner spawning a Chiefs, Maidens’ cross country group stockpiled with talent, finished the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11 minutes, 17.59 seconds.

Ronan is starting to prove they have more than just distance runners with this year’s young core of talent. The Chiefs also have some 110-meter hurdlers that are capable of top-five finishes and making an impact. Brannan Roullier finished fifth in the 110-meter with a time of 17.28 seconds.

Roullier also placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles recording a time of 44.95 seconds.

In addition to speedsters and distance-runners, Landon Lynch finished fifth in shot put recording a distance of 42 feet, 1 inches.

The Chiefs also boost of several jumpers that are starting to emerge from this young pool of talent. Zack Gainan tied for fifth at the KHL high jump, clearing a distance of 5 feet, 4 inches. Gainan captured first in the high jump clearing a distance of 5 feet, 6 inches.

The Ronan Maidens will have one more meet at the Nelson-Thomas ABC Meet May 12 at Polson, before trying to qualify their competitors for MHSA Class A state on May 18-19 in Western Divisionals at Polson High School.
