SANDPOINT — If you’re on the hunt for Mother’s Day treats, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2453 has your back.
The local post is again featuring its signature chocolate bars for sale for Mother’s Day and Memorial Day. The artisinal confections, made by Sandpoint Chocolate Bear, come in milk or dark chocolate varieties and sell for $3 apiece.
They can be found at Chocolate Bear, Trinity at City Beach, Route 66 Autobody, Sears, and the UPS Store on Cedar Street.
The bars, which feature the phrase “Freedom is Sweet,” continue to be a important fundraising vehicle for the local VFW troop as it awaits completion of its upgraded bingo system.
“This is turning out to be a big fundraiser for us,” said post member George Eskridge.
All of the money raised by the post is used exclusively to help local military service veterans who are in a financial pinch or who need assistance with basic necessities, such as food and firewood or fuel.
“All the proceeds stay in Bonner County,” emphasized the VFW’s Larry Pedersen.
There are more than 5,000 veterans in Bonner County, according Veterans Administration statistics.
