Sandpoint is so fortunate to have the DayBreak Center program in the community. This extension of the Sandpoint Area Seniors, Inc. provides daytime care for elderly people with dementia and Alzheimer’s.

My mom is an Alzheimer’s patient who has lived with us for the past 14 months. While Mom’s disease is progressing and we are coming to the end of our ability to care for her, this past year wouldn’t have been possible without DayBreak and the amazing people who work there. Anne, Adrianne and the crew have loved her and encouraged us endlessly. And while nothing can stop this relentless disease, DayBreak has given us the gift of time. Mom was markedly more mentally engaged each time I picked her up, and I was refreshed by the opportunity to shop and attend to family business alone.

I hope this letter will remind the community of this amazing service. When I meet others who are caring for their parents or spouses, the story is the same. The caregiver spends so much mental energy coping that they don’t realize they’re over their heads until they’re drowning. The excellent care and compassion you’ll encounter at DayBreak Center can greatly minimize that feeling of being overwhelmed and exhausted.
