CHENEY — The Special Olympics Othello Dream Team competed well at the Eastern Regional Track tournament in Cheney on May 5, with three athletes bringing home hardware from the event.

Colton Schmidt captured gold in the 400 meter run and long jump competition. He took fifth in both the 100 and 200 meter run. Devon Thompson struck gold in the long jump as well, but under a different age group, and finished fifth in both the 100 meter dash and 200 meter run. Megan Lembcke earned silver in the 50 meter dash. She placed fourth in the softball throw and crossed the finish line in fifth place in the 200 meter walk event.

“The track and field program is brand new to Othello this year,” coach Pam Schmidt said. “We are very excited for the opportunities that Special Olympics is offering to our community for people with special needs.”
