MATTAWA — The Mattawa City Council discussed various subjects Thursday, including water and sewer rates.

After much deliberation and discussion over the course of several council meetings, the council gave the approval Thursday to raise sewer rates by 14 percent and water rates by 3 percent.

Though these percentage might sound high, clerk treasurer Ann Hastie said the increase translates to only a few dollars more a month overall.

For example, Hastie explained, the ballpark estimate based off the base rate for a single family home will see an increase of only about $4.75 more on their monthly bill.

Even with the increase though, Mattawa will continue to have lower water and sewer rates than many other towns in the surrounding area Hastie said.
