MOSES LAKE — It was a packed house in the Moses Lake High School office on Tuesday afternoon.

Several family members, friends, coaches and teammates were in attendance to witness three Chiefs make their college choice official.

Football players BJ Mullin and Spencer Skeesick signed with Whitworth University and North Dakota State College of Science, respectively. Basketball player Zach Phillips made a commitment to Northwest College.

Mullin battled injuries throughout his junior and senior seasons, but remained a dynamic two-way player for Moses Lake.

“It feels great,” he said. “Just blessed to play football because I love to do it. Blessed to play another four years at a school that I feel like I will love playing there and playing for.”

Mullin joins Brett Moser and Rehn Reiley as Moses Lake graduates to play for the Pirates.

Skeesick was a reliable kicker for a Moses Lake team that finished its Columbia Basin Big Nine schedule undefeated. Skeesick connected on 29 extra points and two field goals, placing him in the top 15 of CBBN scoring leaders. What’s more, Skeesick’s booming kickoffs prevented many lengthy returns from the opposition.

“I’m just ready for the new chapter,” he said. “Can’t wait to play college ball. It’s always been a dream to play at the next level. I’m ready for it.”

The Wildcats finished their 2017 schedule 5-4 overall.

Phillips had a meandering road toward Northwest College.

After a move to Utah, Phillips returned to Moses Lake before his senior season of basketball where the Chiefs reached the district semifinals. Phillips was named the CBBN Player of the Year as a junior and was voted all-league first team as a senior.

“It’s kind of a relief or stress off my shoulders, but then it’s kind of like a new challenge,” he said. “So, I’m excited to get started.”
