WARDEN — A decision to spin donuts on a freshly graded road near Warden led to a short pursuit and the arrest of a 22-year-old Warden man Tuesday morning.
About 9:25 a.m. crews finished grading a road near Road V Southeast and Road 1 Southeast when they reportedly spotted a car spinning donuts on the road. MACC Dispatch was contacted and a deputy with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded and spotted the suspect vehicle, alleged to have been driven by Tristan Duplichan, 22, of Warden, in the area, according to the sheriff's office on Wednesday.
Duplichan reportedly drove off and was pursued by the deputy. A second deputy later joined in the short pursuit, which was confined to a one-mile area near Road V Southeast and reached speeds between 40 and 70 mph along roads and canal banks.
Duplichan pulled over during the chase and fled the car with a 17-year-old girl. Deputies and Moses Lake police officers located Duplichan and the girl hiding near where they ditched the car. Duplichan was booked into the Grant County Jail for investigation of attempting to elude and third-degree malicious mischief. The 17-year-old girl was released to her parents.
