Earlier last week, Sanders County Emergency Manager Bill Naegeli issued an Emergency Declaration for Flooding along the Clark Fork River near Paradise.

Naegeli said that though the road is in good condition, there were areas of concern, and with impending rising waters he didn’t want to see further damage.

The approval from Sanders County Commissioners was made the Monday of last week, with the request being made straight after the approval.

“This will go towards possible projects along River Road East, with regards to flood erosion,” said Naegeli.

As of Thursday, May 10, an excavator and front end loader where working along River Road East, at the Paradise side of the road, building rock against the banks of the road.

By requesting emergency aid for the flood erosion that has been seen in the Plains/Paradise areas along the Clark Fork River, it was in the best interest for the County to submit the declaration to ensure that any possible damage would be minimal.

The request was made to the US Army Corps of Engineers as they were already in the area working on the flood erosion on the banks of the Clark Fork River behind the Waste Water Treatment Lagoons.
