Community, law enforcement agencies note National Police Week

As the nation noted National Police Week this week, area agencies took a moment to thank local law enforcement for all they do.
“It is my honor and privilege to serve side by side with the men and women who have sworn an oath to protect and serve the citizens and guest of Sandpoint,” Sandpoint Police Chief Corey Coon said. “I will forever be grateful for their willingness to put on the uniform and face the many obstacles before them.”
President Ronald Reagon said once that “evil is powerless if the good are unafraid,” Coon said. “I am grateful to serve with men and women who are willing to place there lives on the line for each and every one of us.”
Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week pay tribute to local, state, and federal peace officers who have died in the line of duty. Ceremonies are held on May 15 and the week is the calendar week in which the memorial falls. This year, National Police Week falls from May 13-18.
When he think of the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their families, friends and communities, Coon said his heart is full of thanks and gratitude for exemplifying the quote, “bravery is not the absence of fear but action in the face of fear.”
When he thinks of those he serves with, who work to keep the community safe, Coon said he just wants them to know how much he appreciates them.
“A simple thank you can never expresses my appreciation for what they do,” he added.
Bonner County Undersheriff Ror Lakewold agree, saying there aren’t enough thanks to cover the bravery, dedication and hard work exhibited by law enforcement officers on a daily basis.
“We are so grateful to live and work in such a supportive community,” Lakewold told the Daily Bee. “We thank the people of Bonner County for being so supportive of those who are committed to their protection.”
