OTHELLO — The Old Hotel and Art Gallery has not one, but many ‘Artists of the Month’ as students from McFarland Middle School and Othello High School will have their artwork on display.

Students from grades 6-12 have created each of the art pieces.

Uniquely designed and brightly colored mandala patterns created by middle school students adorn the wall near the entrance of the gallery. Behind the front desk showcases original pieces and artistic representations of poems.

In the glass case holds ‘self portraits’ of the high school student artists where cardboard boxes and other recycled materials were used to create each of the students’ initials. The artists then adorned their initials with depictions of their favorite season, holiday, hobby, place, color, their zodiac, imaginary of real creature, and their biggest fear. Each piece reflects their individual perceptions of themselves explained Gwen Wharton, who has been teaching art at Othello High School for two years.

Along the stairs and on the second floor showcases both original pieces and reproductions of famous artwork. Vibrant pieces created using techniques inspired by French painter Georges Seurat can also be found along the staircase.

The artwork will be displayed throughout the gallery for the month of May.
