Students, staff, parents and the general public will have an opportunity to meet the potential next principal of Coeur d’Alene High School on Thursday.

A committee commissioned by Coeur d’Alene Public Schools interviewed two candidates and selected Bret Heller — principal at Victory Middle School in the West Ada School District — as the finalist for the position.

Heller, who graduated from CHS, was named the first principal at Victory Middle School when it opened in the fall of 2016.

At 1:45 p.m. on Thursday in the Coeur d’Alene High School library, Heller will introduce himself to the student body. He will meet with district and school staff at 3 p.m., and with parents and the general public at 5 p.m. at the same location.

All three events will feature a short presentation from Heller followed by a question-and-answer session. Constituent feedback will determine how the hiring process moves forward.

Prior to holding his current position, Heller served as principal at Lake Hazel Middle School and assistant principal at Meridian High School, both of the West Ada School District.

He began his career in education in the same district as the athletic director, coach, and health teacher at Eagle Middle School.

Heller received his bachelor’s degree in physical education, with a minor in health, from the University of Idaho before earning a master’s from U of I in 2006.

He also earned an education specialist degree from Boise State University in 2017 and has been endorsed to serve as a K-12 principal and superintendent in Idaho.

The position of principal at CHS was vacated after the death of Troy Schueller in March.
