As the school year comes to a close, some athletic directors are still looking to fill coaching positions.

Some have already filled those positions.

Here’s a rundown — so far:

Coeur d’Alene: Renee Bordelon, who starred in volleyball at Lake City High, North Idaho College and Washington State, was hired as Vikings volleyball coach, replacing Dee Pottenger.

Bordelon has coached at several levels since her college playing career ended. In 2016, she was an assistant to Jenna Leggat at Lake City High.

Pottenger, who resigned following last season, posted an overall record of 126-75 in seven seasons as Coeur d’Alene coach, and guided the Vikings to state twice — a runner-up finish in 2014, and a fourth-place finish in ’15. Her 126 wins are second-most in program history. The Vikings were 16-13 last year.

Lakeland: Adriano de Souza has resigned after two seasons as Hawks volleyball coach to concentrate on his restaurant business. He and his wife own the Grille from Ipanema Brazilian steakhouse in Coeur d’Alene.

Lakeland went 26-38 in his two seasons, and was starting to make inroads in the 4A Inland Empire League.

Kelsie Badger, a special education teacher at John Brown Elementary in Rathdrum, and Lakeland’s junior varsity coach the past two seasons, has been promoted to head coach.

Badger was a three-sport athlete at Freeman (Wash.) High, then competed in volleyball and track and field at Eastern Washington.

Her volleyball coaching experience also includes three seasons as JV coach at Freeman, and two years as freshman coach at Capital High in Boise. She was “C” team coach at Lakeland before taking over the JV that last two seasons. She has coached in the Idaho Impact club program for three years — two years with the under-12 team, one year with the U14s.

St. Maries: Jay Sines resigned after eight seasons as girls basketball coach. Sines posted a record of 89-88, including 50-18 the last three seasons. Sines guided the Lumberjacks to state in 2017 and ’18; before that, St. Maries hadn’t been to state since 2002.

Sines’ daughter, Paige, was a senior on this year’s team.

Brad Groce stepped down as girls soccer coach after three seasons to accept a teaching position in Spokane. The ’Jacks went 9-5-1 last season.

The Lumberjacks are still looking for head coaches for both positions.

Kootenai: Mary Gentry resigned after four seasons as Warriors volleyball coach.

Under Gentry, Kootenai went 56-32, and qualified for state in each of her first three seasons.

Gentry’s daughter, Kaili, was a senior on the volleyball team this past season.

Danyel Ward, a 1997 Kootenai High grad, was named to replace Gentry as volleyball coach.

The former Danyel Hunter played volleyball and basketball, and threw the shot put and discus all four years at Kootenai.

Ward’s coaching experience includes one season with the freshman/sophomore volleyball team at Rio Mesa High in Oxnard, Calif.. She also co-coached (and skated with) the Hells Canyon Honeys roller derby team based in Lewiston in 2013.

Genesis Prep: Mindy Buck resigned after one season as volleyball coach to spend more time with her growing family. The Jaguars went 8-8 last season.
