KELLOGG – A multi-vehicle accident on Thursday morning had parts of Division Street in Kellogg blocked off after an SUV came to a rolling stop of the Westbound I-90 offramp.

Kellogg native Joey Wentland told the News-Press that incident occurred when he was getting off the highway at exit 51 just before 10 a.m. with his younger brother Daniel and a female passenger. As he approached the midway point on the ramp, he discovered that the brakes on the Toyota 4Runner he was driving weren’t working.

“I could hear him pushing the brakes all the way to floor,” Daniel said. “Nothing was happening.”

Wentland attempted to utilize the emergency brake, which also failed, before attempting to put the SUV in park as a last ditch effort.

The driver’s side of the vehicle then struck the curb, which lifted it up off the ground as Wentland attempted to make a left hand turn and avoid the cars parked along Division on the other side.

This action caused the vehicle to flip and slid into multiple parked cars, severely damaging one of them.

Kellogg Police and Fire District No. 2 responded to the accident and after an investigation, confirmed that mechanical failure was the cause of the accident.

All three passengers were wearing seatbelts and walked away from the accident with minor to no injuries.
