Jack DeBaun made some critical observations in his letter (Sept. 3, 2018, Daily Bee) which are worth exploring. Unfortunately, Jack decided to use personal derision and innuendo to attack a man (Joe Bastardi) not present to defend himself, though that is too often present in today’s USA. Nevertheless, some insights might be worthwhile now.

The skeptical-science.com article Jack referenced (“One Confusedi Bastardi”) was published in 2011. A lot has been discovered since then. It has been learned that ocean water temperature samples were taken from the ballasts of ocean ships, the number of location sites has decreased, etc. More importantly, much of the earlier “science” was proven to be fabricated: “Climategate”, (March 15, 20-13, CFACT, cfact.org). CFACT provides several articles by a variety of trained professionals to illustrate the truths about models, climate and science.

Chapter 3 of Joe Bastardi’s “The Climate Chronicles” (2017) includes a chart titled “Geological Timescale: Concentration of CO2 and Temperature Fluctuations”, by Dr C. R. Scotese. Two takeways, of many: Both CO2 and temperatures have been declining for more than 40 million years, from much higher levels than today’s, and both may have bottomed over 1.4 million years ago, with a slight uptick even before the Industrial Revolution began. Temperatures were much hotter 50 million years ago while CO2 was still declining. If a reversion to the mean has begun, it started before the burning of fossil fuels. The Cleveland Browns won. Are they getting hot now?
