MOSES LAKE — A man who rammed a Moses Lake cop car and was shot by less-lethal shotgun rounds and tased by bail bond agents is facing several charges in Grant County Superior Court.

Grant County prosecutors charged Isai Ramirez Alvarez, 25, of Moses Lake, with second-degree malicious mischief, possession of a controlled substance and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

Ramirez Alvarez’s charges stem from the Moses Lake Police Department assisting bail bond agents with AA Fast Bail on Oct. 29 in taking Ramirez Alvarez into custody, as he was believed to be a flight risk. When police arrived at the South Grand Drive residence where Ramirez Alvarez, who had two outstanding felony warrants out for his arrest, was alleged to be he was reportedly sleeping in a van that was parked in the driveway.

At some point Ramirez Alvarez woke up and started the van, after which two rounds from a less-lethal shotgun and a taser were used on him by two bail bond agents.

“I heard someone shout ‘police’ then I heard what sounded to me like a gunshot. I turned around and saw the driver side window shattered. I could see a male in the driver seat awake and saw that he was putting the vehicle into gear. The driver then rammed Officer (Jack) Dodson’s patrol vehicle. I heard another pop that sounded to me like a gunshot,” wrote an officer. “The driver then reversed into Officer Dodson’s patrol vehicle again, I then heard someone shoot the driver with a taser.”

Ramirez Alvarez was treated at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake for injuries sustained in the incident. Police went on to recover small amounts of heroin from Ramirez Alvarez’s pocket and vehicle as well as a scale, foil and a glass pipe. Ramirez Alvarez opted to not speak with police about what had occurred and instead asked to speak with an attorney.
