MATTAWA — Three people were injured in a two-vehicle collision near Mattawa on Thursday.
About 4 p.m. Enrique Castroailon, 40, of Mattawa, was driving a 1991 Honda Accord north on state Route 243, about two miles south of Mattawa, and slowed down to make a left turn. As Castroailon was slowing down his vehicle was rear-ended by a 1994 Honda Civic driven by Jennifer Whitesell, 23, of Yakima, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Castroailon, Whitesell and her passenger, Fidel Lopez-Martinez, 41, of Mattawa, were injured in the collision and transported to Kadlec Medical Center in Richland for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Everyone involved in the collision was wearing a seatbelt and the patrol says neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the incident. Both of the involved vehicles sustained reportable damages and were impounded. The patrol reports Whitesell was cited for following too close.
