What started out as a way for fellow employees to help each other has now turned into a several thousand dollar annual event.
In late October, the Superior Forest Service District raised more than $7,500 at its annual Pumpkin Auction. Employees of the Superior Forest Service contributed both items for the live auction, as well as participated in the auction itself.
Funds raised go to local charities as well as for other people in need throughout the county. The auction began years ago with employee’s donating to co-workers who needed help with things like medical bills, “but the auction has grown since then,” said Superior District Ranger Carole Johnson.
This year, $500 was donated to Women in Timber; $500 to the local food bank; and $500 to the Lions Club Christmas baskets for those in need, “and some funds do remain in the account for fellow employees,” said Johnson.
