BONNERS FERRY — A house fire occurred on Atlanta Street around 6:40 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10. Bonners Ferry Fire Department, Boundary Ambulance Service, and Boundary County Sheriff Deputy Bob Elam all responded to the scene.

There was one person trapped in the house, and the first responders were able to rescue that person out through a window. The fire started in the basement and Elam said the fire was close to flashing as they performed the rescue.

“Medic 10 assisted BFFD firefighters in pulling a victim found in a room, out of a window to safety,” wrote Boundary Ambulance Service Chief of EMS Jeff Lindsey on the Boundary Ambulance Facebook page. “Boundary Paramedics and EMTs stabilized the patient and transported to Community Hospital. Paramedics then transferred the patient to Sacred Heart in Spokane for further care.”

Bonners Ferry Firefighters fought the blaze for about 45 minutes, and then spent about three hours making sure that the fire was completely extinguished. Bonners Ferry Fire Chief David Winey said the structure received heavy damage.

“They got right in there and did their jobs, and saved the structure,” said Winey about his firefighters. “They did very well.”
