In the wake of the devastating California wildfires, where the death toll has risen to 71 and there are more than 1,000 people unaccounted for, Kootenai County is reminding the public to sign up to receive emergency notifications when incidents are occurring in our communities.

Kootenai County knows the importance of quickly alerting the public and has the ability to warn and provide timely emergency notifications to the public.

On Monday, Nov. 26, Kootenai County will conduct its next quarterly test of ALERT! Kootenai, the county’s public alert and warning system.

This test is for those individuals who have signed up. This system enables the county to provide the public with critical information quickly in a variety of situations, such as wildfires, winter storms, flooding, windstorms, hazardous material incidents, unexpected road closures, evacuations of buildings or neighborhoods and much more.

Kootenai County encourages those of you who have not signed up to do so now at www.kcgov.us/alertkootenai. If you are signed up but have had a change of address or cellular phone number, you should update your information on the above website.

Landline telephones are automatically set up to receive emergency alerts. By opting into the ALERT! Kootenai emergency notification system, you can be informed before, during, and after incidents that could impact your safety. Please share this information with friends and family.

For information or assistance with signing up call 208-446-1850 or email [email protected].
