There is confusion about how the Center for Asbestos Related Disease (CARD) is funded and why the CARD Foundation needs to raise money.

The clinic and foundation are independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations. CARD provides advocacy, care, resources and hope for the community, and across the nation, to those impacted by Libby asbestos. They are funded by billing for patient services, research and contracts, donations and a federal grant for asbestos health and lung cancer screening. The federal money received is specifically for free screening, outreach and education, and can’t be used for anything else.

The CARD Foundation relies on the generosity of donors so the clinic can continue services and make upgrades such as a handicapped accessible door for patients, a project currently in progress. The Foundation also hopes to support CARD in having their small and dangerously sloped parking lot redesigned.

What about the Big Sky Bash? Historically, the event has made very little profit, but the CARD Foundation feels it is important because it raises awareness, cultivates camaraderie, promotes tourism and local businesses, and provides great entertainment. We plan to continue hosting the event, and we thank everyone involved.
