Derby hooks pair of lead changes

SANDPOINT — Action on the lake hit full throttle after the holiday break with two lead changes — the first in the adult mackinaw category and the second in the Youth B category.

Taking over the top spot in the adult mackinaw division was John Cosolito, who pulled in a 20.12-pounder to claim the top spot from Brad Sturgis, who had down the lead since Sunday. In the Youth B category, it was Clare Belgarde who pulled in a 16.12-pound, 34 1/2-inch mackinaw to top over top honors from Gracie Belgarde, who’d just taken over the top spot Wednesday with her own 16-plus-pound mackinaw.

In the adult rainbow division, Moose Zema held onto the lead with a 23 1/2-pound, 36-inch rainbow he caught Tuesday. Catching their way onto the leaderboard were Denton McGlothlin with a 22.48-pound, 36-inch rainbow for second place and Aaron Nelson with a 21.88-pound, 35/14-inch rainbow to claim second. Julie Williams dropped to fourth with a 20.78-pound, 34-inch rainbow she caught earlier in the week.

Following Cosolito and Brad Sturgis in the adult mackinaw division is Becky Sturgis with a 17.3-pounder that measured 35 1/2 inches or third-place; Art Webb is fourth with a 17.10-pound mackinaw measuring 37 inches, Gale Belgarde Sr. in fifth with a 16-24-pound, 34-inch fish. In sixth is Gary Thompson with a 6.24-pound, 26 1/4-inch fish; seventh is Gale Belgarde Jr. with a 3.52-pound, 22-inch mack; and eighth is Jerry Walker with a 1.86-pound, 18 1/2-inch fish; and ninth is Clint Nicholson with a 1.7-pound, 17-inch mackinaw.

Brandon Reeves continues to lead in the junior division with a 18.66-pounder that measured 35 inches; Carson Laybourne is second with a 14.54-pounder measuring 31 1/2 inches, and third is Patrick Elmore with a 10.6-pouind, 30-inch fish.

In the Youth A division, Carly Laybourne continued to lead with a 16.12-pound, 34 1/2-inch mackinaw, followed by Londyn Steckman with a 9.5-pound, 27 3/4-inch rainbow in second and Keefe Shockey with an 8.86-pound, 27 3/4-inch rainbow in third.

In the Youth B standings, following Clare Belgarde in first and Gracie Belgarde in second, Lyla Shelton is in the third-place spot with a 13.16-pound, 30-inch rainbow.
